Egypt’s Tourism Revenues Grew 16.2% in 4 Months

The number of tourists to Dubai increased from 8.49 million in 2010 to 9,300,000 in 2011, a rise of 10%, according to the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). With the Arab revolutions and the fall in tourist flows to Egypt and Tunisia, Dubai has become in the past year a popular destination. On average, according to the DTCM, the tourists spend now 3.6 days, an increase of 12% compared to 2010.
“We managed to increase the number of tourists in Dubai because of our initiatives to strengthen our position in established markets and emerging markets. Rising activities in hotels and residential hotels reflect the vitality and dynamism of the tourism industry in the emirate,”said DTCM Director General, Khalid Bin Sulayem.
Cruise tourism also contributed to the growth of tourism in Dubai with the increase in passenger numbers last year. In 2011, Saudi Arabia was the largest market for the emirate’s tourism industry with 873.152 visitors, followed by India (702,142), United Kingdom (643,196), Iran (476,708) and United States (462,653). Germany ranks sixth with 275.663 and France 13th on the list with 152,439 visitors in 2011.
